What is responsibly sourced gas?

At Rally Point Resources operating in the Permian Basin spanning West Texas and Southeast New Mexico, notable progress has been achieved. Recently, some of the natural gas extracted from this region received certification as responsibly sourced gas (RSG) from a third-party assessor.

We are on track to launch our inaugural batch of RSG later this year, following thorough third-party assessments confirming that specific production sites in Texas and Colorado meet the highest environmental and community standards.

But what exactly does RSG entail?

RSG, also known as independently verified gas, is distinguished as natural gas extracted from facilities subjected to rigorous assessments by third-party certifiers. To attain this designation, companies must demonstrate:

  • Methane emissions intensity below a predetermined threshold, employing best practices for its mitigation.

  • A commitment to minimizing impacts on communities and the environment.

  • Responsible management of water, waste, and other resources.

Why does this matter?

With expectations for affordable, reliable, and increasingly cleaner energy on the rise, independent assessments of Rally Point Resources’ practices serve to validate our strengths, identify areas for improvement, and affirm our performance to key stakeholders, customers, and the broader public.

Will RSG become widely accessible?

This remains uncertain. Ultimately, market forces will determine whether there is sufficient demand from the public to significantly increase RSG production.

A noteworthy achievement

For Rally Point Resources employees like Carol Baker, whose dedication contributed to our certification, reducing emission intensity is more than just fulfilling job requirements; it embodies a personal commitment.

“I don’t believe people truly grasp the depth of our commitment and the significance of our work,” reflects Baker, Environment Manager within the Mid-Continent Business Unit. “Stakeholders often urge us to operate with maximum sustainability. Our impetus stems from a genuine desire to curtail methane emissions intensity, a commitment that resonates in everything we do.”
